Nestled in a serene wooded setting, this home needed connection with the outdoors and an updated design concept. The clients actually never used the space for more than storage and a passageway to other parts of the home. With no existing fireplace or access to the expansive deck, architectural changes were called for to address both issues.
Custom French doors and new windows frame the tree-top views and create a focal point for the contemporary yet cozy furniture grouping hearthside. Custom cabinetry surrounds the brand new stone-clad fireplace. Vaulted ceilings are accented with double rustic chandeliers by Currey defining both seating and dining areas. The old oak and carpet floors were replaced with sophisticated hardwoods and warmed with rich oriental rugs in muted tones of navy, rust and green. A custom craftsman-styled wood stair rail system replaces the traditional, dated turned railings and adds a sculptural element to the Entry.
The upholstered furniture by Norwalk offers comfort and color with clean-lined chairs, a round leather cocktail ottoman and a generous sofa. In the Dining Room, a large table and upholstered side chairs from Norwalk invite family and guests to dine with a woodland vantage point and views of the crackling fire. The home is now as welcoming as a ski lodge on a snowy evening or a leafy treehouse on a summer afternoon. No longer just a passageway; it is a destination in which to linger, share and find solace.
