Perfectly situated in the midst of towering evergreens and open fields where elk graze; this classic home was lovingly built from logs and local stone and has an authentic and enduring style. The homeowner wished to restyle the interiors for a new look still in keeping with the charm of the country setting. High wood ceilings and large windows bringing in forest views were in place but the original peninsula fireplace did not live up to its potential. It blocked both views and light between the living and dining rooms and was covered in an unconvincing faux river rock. The old fireplace was completely removed and a newly-designed fireplace flanked with floor-to-ceiling bookcases was repositioned to the long empty wall of the room. It now appears to have always been there and its real rock façade accents the stained wood cabinetry with warm tones. The homeowner, being an avid reader, fills every shelf with his extensive library and family mementos. The centerpiece of the upper vistas of this space is the oversized iron chandelier from Currey that appears to be lit with candles in glass cups. Warm tones in the oriental rugs and upholstery are complemented by the abundance of natural materials all around, including new hand-scraped hardwood floors.
In the entry, a new light fixture accents the glass French doors that open up to the den which is used as a media room and reading area. Down the hallway, the staircase was enhanced by a custom designed railing in a craftsman style. Past the stair, a guest bath was completely updated with appropriately beautiful finishes including natural slate floors and river pebble shower.
The home’s idyllic setting now carries through to the natural beauty of its interiors. At present, the next phase of remodeling is nearly completed wherein the new Master bedroom and bath are being redone in a rustic, yet contemporary style that promises to be as beautiful and livable as the rest of this gentleman’s retreat.
